Occultist's Guide to Summoning - by T.A. Saunders ©2015 v1.0

Spectral

Any formally alive, non-corporeal being, summoned from either their haunting site, or their lost wandering between this realm and Cylmoria, the Ethereal Realm can be considered a spectral entity. Ethos is not a constraint to summoning, but it will be difficult for a medium of one ethos to control one of an opposing one (-15% penalty). There are four classifications of summoned spectrals:

Entity

These are the least powerful, and most common of spectral beings. They are often no more than a flickering ball of light when called forth from beyond the grave. They are easily controlled and easily summoned, having forgotten their names in life and what path they once followed. However, there are rare exceptions to this rule, for the most powerful sorts of entities. Wandering Spirits, Willow-the-Wisps and Spirit Lights are all examples of Entities. (Mediums of newbie chronicles will only be able to summon this sort of spectral being, unless otherwise specified by an op).

Ghost

Ghosts make up the bulk of the restless spectral beings that wander between this realm and the Ethereal. They come in all manner of shape and form and will almost always have a class path. Though, less likely is the possibility that these beings will be a paragon in a class path, or dual-classed. Rarer still are ghosts that remember their name or their past, but it is possible. Wights, Shades, Haunts and Poltergeists are all examples of spectral beings. (Ghosts can be summoned by Mediums of mid-range chronicles, or newbie chronicles if an exceptional Research roll is made, with op discretion).

Phantom

Extremely powerful spectral beings, they are always named and are either paragon in a class, or dual-classed. These beings have very specific rites that will often include an item from their past or some remnant of their corporeal form. They retain much of their knowledge from their past life, and tend to be exceedingly vindictive (in other words, abusing them or their power is ill-advised). Wraiths, Spectres and Ancestral Spirits are all examples of Phantoms. (Phantom class spectral beings can only be summoned by Mediums of high end chronicles or mid-range chronicles if an exceptional Research roll is made, with op discretion).

Apparition

The strongest form of spectral being, they are always named, are always either dual-classed or a paragon in their chosen profession, and will be exceedingly well-armed with armor, weapons and magic of the highest caliber, possibly artifact-rated, all of which they likely would have carried in life. Under no circumstances should the arrival of an Apparition class spectral being be taken lightly, as they have full command over their interaction with the material world, and can directly affect those within it. It is also highly ill-advised to attempt to force one into servitude, unless one is very willing to incur their wrath. Heroic Spirits and Villainous Spirits are examples of Apparition class spectral beings. (Apparitions can only be summoned by Mediums of high end chronicles, with an exceptional Research roll).
